Broken Wings

We merge rhythms
of song, our identity
revealed in finite
syllables, amplitude
and frequencies—tones
for sensory pleasure.

Sunrise to dusk we
serenade an unintended
audience, pointlessly
hostage to broken wings,
unaware we grieve
for them.

We cantillate lesser
melodies, warily
nestled in urban trees.
Perhaps we’ll catch
a breeze to the shores,
and rediscover our
harmony.

“Peace and equality are not possible when one aspect of the human species rules over another. Peace and equality are not possible when human beings attempt to rule over nature. Lastly, peace and equality are not possible unless all individuals establish an interdependent relationship based on the actualized force of unconditional love.”
