Ain’t There Yet

“We should all be
horrified!”

Spin of the day, the
usual prepared public
speeches, politicians
on their game.

                       Just love one another.

Can’t have Five-0
gunnin’ down our
black folk, they say—not
to mention it’s gettin’
a bit difficult to
defend live feed
executions by
strangulation. Who
woulda thought?

                        Just love one another.

“I feared for my life!”
Accused cop’s go
to protocol—”I was
only following
departmental policy.”

“Anyone could see
that suspect, face-down
in handcuffs, was a
threat to me.”

                        Just love one another.

Stars grow dim yet
again, galaxies tremble
desperately—whispers
across cosmic dust,
“They’re not there yet.”

No, we ain’t there yet.

                        Just love one another.

We ain’t there yet.

“Peace and equality are not possible when one aspect of the human species rules over another. Peace and equality are not possible when human beings attempt to rule over nature. Lastly, peace and equality are not possible unless all individuals establish an interdependent relationship based on the actualized force of unconditional love.”
