Cleverness

nature sees
                                only weakness
        in our
                  self-indulgent

cleverness,
                                 vacant thoughts
        strewn
                   across parched

landscapes
                                 where a child’s
        mind once
                   flourished, but

all horizons
                                  have vanished
        into the
                   adulthood of

humanity—fish
                                  competing for
        the final
                   breath of

oxygen from
                                  water poisoned
        by systemic
                   indifference to

our unique
                                  preeminence in
        quantum cause
                    and consequence

“As each moment progresses, the human being must answer the two quintessential questions: Which forms of influence will dominate me? To which forms of influence will I contribute?”
