Amused

Ripples on
water scarcely
visible beneath
glistening
sunlight.

Hushed
meditations,
flickers of wisdom
in starless
midnights within
our mind.

Trepidations over
fading flowers
and disappeared
rivers—why
we’d be born just
to die.

Such is the
madness we accept
as certainty,
earth and sun
amused.

“As each moment progresses, the human being must answer the two quintessential questions: Which forms of influence will dominate me? To which forms of influence will I contribute?”
