Lifeless

I struggle with obedience
To a diagrammed existence
Which I am told is not

Negotiable as I must
Conform to the relegated role
Without disputing how

It was concluded my
Soul be superseded through
Systematic paltriness so

Endemic in the faces
I encounter roaming busy
Streets, gazing afar as

Though their lives were
Nothing more than vague
Impressions of petrified

Thoughts once dreamt
In future spaces along paths
Now lost to overgrowth

And unwitting neglect
But the pain is spared by
Fading visions mirrored

In their eyes and I seal
A covenant to nullify those
Who prefer me lifeless
